we're in the module on developmental and intellectual disabilities in my caregiver training and wow. the class's discussion of autism is so bad.
#a sock speaks#I got so comfortable with many friends and acquaintances being autistic. seeing their perspectives first hand#and now even the instructor of this class is saying so many things that make me cringe#of course we as caregivers are likely to have clients with high support needs or who are nonverbal#but some of this just feels so infantilizing :/#so much looking at a person's condition as their care team's inconvenience instead of. y'know. centering the client's needs/preferences?!#the textbooks are better but not great. the discussion was pretty terrible.
